·         has been previously unsuccessful in a traditional school setting;

·         prefers to work at an individualized pace; and

February 19th Changes to Symptom Screening and Quarantine Requirements

Dear KPR Families/Staff,

Thank you for your continued support in following local and provincial health directives. Together, we are all working to help keep students, staff and communities safe, and our schools open for students.

We have received information from the Ministry of Education about two significant changes to the school and childcare screening tool and quarantine requirements. These changes, outlined below, take effect immediately.

UPDATED SYMPTOM SCREENING

The Chief Medical Officer of Health has updated the provincial school screening criteria.  Students and staff with new or worsening symptoms of COVID-19, as outlined in the school and child care screening tool, even those with only one symptom, must stay home until:

  • They receive a negative COVID-19 test result.
  • They receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care professional, or
  • It has been 10 days since their symptom onset and they are feeling better.

The provincial school screening tool has been updated to reflect these changes: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

As a reminder, secondary students and staff are now required to provide daily confirmation of having self-screened upon their arrival. Any individual that does not pass the screening procedure will be asked to return home and self-isolate until they meet the criteria for return.

NEW QUARANTINE REQUIREMENTS

The Ministry of Health has also issued new guidance that requires all household contacts of symptomatic individuals to quarantine until the symptomatic household member:

  • receives a negative COVID-19 test result, or
  • receives an alternative diagnosis by a health care professional

This means that if a child OR an adult has symptoms of COVID, all other parents and siblings in the household must quarantine until that person receives a negative COVID test result, or receives an alternate diagnosis.

If the symptomatic individual tests positive, or is not tested and does not receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care professional, the symptomatic individual must isolate (including from household members) for 10 days from symptom onset, and all household contacts must isolate for 14 days from their last contact with the symptomatic individual.

We recognize that these are significant provincial changes and we thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our students and staff safe. Schools will support students with materials to continue learning from home during any extended periods of absence.

We continue to work closely with local public health agencies to address this evolving situation. For more information about COVID response in our communities, please visit your local Public Health website:

CCI Voluntary Asymptomatic COVID Testing Clinic

Voluntary Asymptomatic Testing Clinic at Cobourg Collegiate Institute

The school board has been working with Ministry of Education representatives, along with local Medical Offices of Health, on providing testing opportunities for asymptomatic students and staff on a rotating basis at schools throughout KPR.

We are writing today to share that a voluntary COVID-19 testing clinic will be available for our students, staff and their family members on Saturday, March 13, 2021.

The school board has partnered with LifeLabs, Canada’s largest medical laboratory, to provide free COVID-19 testing for all students and their family members, teachers, and staff.  COVID-19 testing is voluntary and only for asymptomatic individuals (those who are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.)

If you are interested in participating, testing will be available:

  • Date: Saturday, March 13, 2021
  • Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Location: Cobourg Collegiate Institute, Rear Gym, 335 King Street E. Cobourg, ON
  • Please park in the rear parking lot.  LifeLabs’ staff and signage will be onsite to help direct you.

One piece of government-issued identification, such as an original birth certificate, health card or passport will be required for proof of identification.  You can also access frequently asked questions at: https://lifelabs.azureedge.net/lifelabs-wp-cdn/2021/02/LifeLabs-Testing-in-Schools-FAQ-for-Parents-Registration.pdf.

Participants are encouraged to register ahead of time.  Please register all of the members of your household who intend to be tested.  Sign up at my.thrive.health using this registration code: Kawartha-hubsite3

You will be asked to create an account, which will save you time at the in-person clinic, allow you to provide guardian consent for any minors, and to check your results online.  Your health card number is required when setting up an account.  If you need any support registering, or have additional questions about the test, please contact LifeLabs at 1-877-849-3637 or visit their website at lifelabs.com.

Walk-in participants will also be accepted during the allocated testing time.

Shorter swab = less discomfort!
The test process is very simple and safe and the collection site will be staffed by professionals who will be following a multitude of safety parameters.  The test is less invasive than previous options and uses a shorter nasal swab (like a Q-tip) that doesn’t reach as far back in the nose.  After the sample is collected, the test results will then be available within 24-48 hours at covid19results.ehealthontario.ca.

For more information about LifeLabs EDU Targeted Testing programs check out www.lifelabs.com/covid-19-updates/covid19-pcr-testing-for-schools/.

Thank you for considering this opportunity,
